In response to Homij’s request, an extraordinary project was born: developing a lantern that emits the soft glow of a candle while being safe, efficient and durable. Gerben van Dorland, owner of Timberlab, vividly recalls the challenge: ”Timberlab likes to be challenged. Matching the requirements around design, technical specifications and feasibility is exactly what gets us excited.”
The assignment included not only designing attractive interior lighting, but also integrating emergency lighting. An additional challenge was to give the lanterns an ancient look. And in addition; what will we do with the cabling, how will it be concealed in the solid chestnut posts? How can the fixtures be hung without compromising the appearance? The final result consists of fixtures, completely made of bamboo and chestnut wood, fully assembled and wired. They could place the poles very easily.
The sustainable candle lighting and the cooperation with Timberlab were so well liked that Timberlab eventually became responsible for all the mood lighting at WILDLANDS Adventure Zoo. From the risers at the Hippo Pool to the train sets, and from the desert to various restaurants – our lights shine everywhere. The pathways in the park are lit by storm lanterns on bamboo poles and wooden poles; at the savannah lookout point you’ll even find a unique version of the BOSCO integrated into the fencing.
