High in the dunes near Formerum aan Zee lies Elements Terschelling. This hotel was designed to become one with its surroundings: the building follows the natural height differences and is partly sunk into the sand. It is a place where you really experience nature, from the swaying beach grass to the wide views over the North Sea ..
This project focused on the balance between comfort and nature experience. Because Terschelling is one of the darkest places in the Netherlands, it was important that exterior lighting not overpower. Our wooden EYE fixtures, finished in oak, were chosen. These fixtures guide guests along the paths to their suite or apartment, while keeping the environment calm and dark.
The use of oak is a conscious choice for this location. Due to the influence of wind, sun and salt, the wood will naturally gray over time. As a result, the lighting will take on the same hues as the surrounding dune landscape. In this way Timberlab contributes to an outdoor space that merges with nature, exactly as it is meant to be on an island like Terschelling. Check out our other projects in the hospitality sector.
